I’m so happy to share that Arianwen Jewellery has been named a finalist in the Welsh Language category at the Cardiff Life Awards. What a pinch me moment!
From the very beginning, Arianwen Jewellery has been about more than just jewellery. It’s always been about identity, meaning and connection. And for me, a huge part of that identity is the connection to the Welsh language.
Reconnecting with Welsh
The Welsh Language has always been part of my life. Like so many of us in Wales, I am a fluent Welsh speaker and I grew up speaking Welsh every day in school. It was a natural, every day part of life and something I didn’t really question.
But as I got older, I slowly drifted away from using it and unfortunately realised how easy that was to do.
Arianwen Jewellery became a way for me to reconnect with the Welsh language. Not perfectly, not academically, and not fluently all the time, but in a way that felt intentional and personal.
And that’s something I see reflected in so many of my customers too.
That’s what this brand is really about. You don’t have to be fluent in Welsh to connect with it. You might be learning. You might be returning to it after years. Or you might simply feel drawn to the meaning behind a word. That’s enough.
Wearing the language
There’s something incredibly special about wearing a word that means something to you.
Whether it’s cariad, hiraeth, caru ti, or a completely personal engraving, these pieces become more than jewellery - they become a way of carrying language, identity, and feeling with you every day. There’s something to special about wearing language - it’s something that connects you to who you are.
For many customers, it’s their first time choosing Welsh in such a personal way. And hearing how much that means to them is something I’ll never take for granted.
Why this recognition matters
The Welsh language is such an important part of Cardiff’s identity, but it’s also something that can feel intimidating or distant to people. I’ve always wanted Arianwen to feel different and welcoming. A space where curiosity is encouraged. Where questions are always okay. Where you don’t have to “get it right” to be part of it. Being recognised for that approach feels incredibly special.
